Hawks Notebook

Seattle Seahawks
11/23/2006 8:25 AM

The Seattle Times reports the Seahawks' injury list was a bit shorter than in previous weeks, but three starters — C Robbie Tobeck (left hip), right OT Sean Locklear (left ankle) and DT Rocky Bernard (right foot) — all missed practice Wednesday and are questionable. WR Bobby Engram continues to practice and is probable after missing the past six games with a thyroid condition, for which he is taking medication. He'll be a game-time decision.

In other news, the Seahawks held tryouts for three wide receivers, two defensive backs and former NFL QB Drew Henson this week. Seattle added DT Eric Taylor to the practice squad and signed DE Robert Pollard from the practice squad to the active roster. They released WR Sloan Thomas from the practice squad and RB Marquis Weeks from the active roster, but re-signed him to the practice squad. Read more

'Old Chad' subdued about Browns rematch

Cincinnati Bengals
11/23/2006 8:04 AM
The Dayton Daily News reports the new, improved WR Chad Johnson stood in front of the TV cameras in the Bengals locker room on Wednesday, whispering sweet nothings at the Cleveland Browns. Johnson could've easily trashed Browns FS Brian Russell, but the quieter, more subdued and low-key wide receiver chose not to. In the Bengals' 34-17 victory over Cleveland on Sept. 17, Russell applied a Jack Tatum-like hit on Johnson, sending his helmet flying, bloodying his chin and causing him to see stars. What will Johnson tell Russell when they meet again in Cleveland on Sunday? "I'm sorry," Johnson said. Why say that? "I just don't feel like getting hit like that no more," he said. Johnson is the NFL's hottest receiver, having established a league record for receiving yards (450) in back-to-back games. After eight frustrating weeks, it's like old times again. Read more

Edwards wants Browns to be aggressive

Cleveland Browns
11/23/2006 8:00 AM
The Dayton Daily News reports WR Braylon Edwards reached up and politely turned down the volume on a TV hanging across from his locker. He wanted to be heard. Moments later, he was blasting on his own. On Wednesday, the Browns' talented wide receiver was questioned about the team's inability to score touchdowns inside opponents' 20, a problem that has gotten statistically worse in four games under new offensive coordinator Jeff Davidson. Edwards' solution? "I think the play calling needs to be more aggressive," Edwards said, "and I believe when we get down there (inside the opponents' 20) we're just happy to be there. I think that's how it's been all season." In Sunday's 24-20 loss to Pittsburgh, the Browns twice moved the ball inside the Steelers' 20-yard line but failed to score a touchdown both times, settling for field goals by Phil Dawson. Read more

Ferguson's season is over

Denver Broncos
11/22/2006 9:19 AM
The Denver Post reports the Broncos' locker room was a quiet place Tuesday as the team once again had to adjust to the bitter reality of a season-ending injury. SS Nick Ferguson - a team leader and boisterous locker room cutup - was recovering from a quickly arranged knee surgery as his teammates raced through preparations for a pivotal AFC West game Thursday night at Kansas City. Ferguson, a safety, suffered a medial meniscus tear in his left knee during a loss to San Diego on Sunday night. Ferguson - who suffered the injury in the first quarter and finished the game - was put on injured reserve, ending his season. His injury is another on a growing list for Denver. Read more
