Baltimore Ravens 01/31/2007 10:42 AMThe Baltimore Sun reports Ravens RB Jamal Lewis confirmed yesterday that he had surgery a week ago to remove bone spurs from his right ankle and that those bone spurs slowed him during the 2006 season, especially in the first six games until he took injections to ease the pain. Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome first spoke about the surgery yesterday at the Ravens' annual season-ending news conference. Later in the day, Lewis said from his home in Atlanta that he has a splint on the ankle and that it could be removed as early as today. He expects to start jogging in another one to two weeks and running again in seven weeks.Read more
Minnesota Vikings 01/31/2007 10:15 AMThe Pioneer Press reports the Vikings have been mum about their vacancy at defensive coordinator the past 10 days, but one currently off-limits assistant certainly seemed interested in replacing Mike Tomlin. Leslie Frazier, the Indianapolis Colts special assistant to the head coach and defensive backs coach, appeared intrigued by the Vikings' opening Tuesday. "I'd like to get that opportunity one day, to advance," Frazier said. "Like most coaches in our profession, you want to advance, and my goal is to one day be a head coach in the NFL, and one of those steps will probably be being a coordinator (again). Hopefully, the right opportunity will come."Read more
Dallas Cowboys 01/31/2007 10:10 AMThe Star-Telegram reports San Francisco 49ers assistant head coach/defense Mike Singletary interviewed for the Cowboys head coaching position Tuesday, becoming the eighth candidate to do so. No other interviews are scheduled. Singletary joins a field of candidates thought to be led by 49ers offensive coordinator Norv Turner, who interviewed on Sunday. The Cowboys have not announced a timetable for naming the new coach. According to a league source, owner and general manager Jerry Jones is scheduled to leave Thursday for South Florida and the Super Bowl. That could delay the selection of a coach until next week.Read more
Miami Dolphins 01/31/2007 9:57 AMThe Palm Beach Post reports Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga said Tuesday he's not sure GM Randy Mueller will stay with the team. "We like Randy and I don't know what the issue is," said Huizenga, who made a brief appearance at Super Bowl media day at Dolphin Stadium. "We hope Randy stays but he might not." The Titans informed the Dolphins last week of their intention to interview Mueller for their vacant general manager position. But it appears Tennessee has not yet followed through, perhaps at the behest of Mueller. Mueller's contract has not been extended beyond the one year remaining on it despite the fact that he was given full personnel control when Cam Cameron was hired as coach.Read more
