Larry Johnson could rejoin Chiefs

The Kansas City Star reports Wisconsin portion of Chiefs training camp ends today without an appearance by holdout RB Larry Johnson. Johnson could be very much a central figure at practice this weekend when the Chiefs resume their workouts in Kansas City. Multiple sources said Monday that the Chiefs and Johnson had narrowed their once considerable differences over terms of a contract extension and a deal could be struck sometime this week. Read more

Bengals confident in backup QB Johnson

The Dayton Daily News reports Bengals HC Marvin Lewis has a message for fans requesting QB Doug Johnson's head on a silver platter: Relax. Johnson's performance in the Bengals' 27-26 preseason loss at Detroit — 11 of 20 passing for 150 yards, one TD, one interception and three sacks for minus-17 yards — wasn't terrific. But it wasn't terrible, either. "I thought Doug performed better in the game than maybe he had practiced," Lewis said. "That's the key to playing any position in the NFL. Porter plans to return in regular-season opener

The Palm Beach Post reports Dolphins LB Joey Porter has just one date in mind as he rehabs his right knee - Sept. 9. That is when the Dolphins open their regular season in Washington, and Porter, who had arthroscopic surgery last week, wants to be ready to play. "That would definitely be my goal - make sure I'm back for the regular season," Porter said Monday, six days after having his knee scoped by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala. "It's a long season, so I don't want to do anything that is going to jeopardize anything." But HC Cam Cameron isn't so optimistic about Porter's availability against Washington. Read more

Steelers' Parker will play in Saturday's game

The Post-Gazette reports Pro Bowl RB Willie Parker, who did not play in the first two preseason games because of a knee injury, will play Saturday night when the Steelers face the Washington Redskins in Landover, Md. Parker, who missed 10 days of practice with an undisclosed knee injury, said last week he wanted to play against the Redskins but didn't think the coaching staff would use him in the game.
