Jacksonville Jaguars 02/27/2008 5:29 PMThe Florida Times-Union reports it appears likely that Minnesota WR Troy Williamson will soon join the Jaguars through a trade. According to sources requesting anonymity because the deal can't be consummated until Friday at midnight (the start of the new league year, which begins at 11 p.m. CST in Minnesota), the sides have a preliminary agreement in place. The Jaguars, through their media-relations department, declined comment because of league rules.Read more
Kansas City Chiefs 02/27/2008 5:18 PMThe Kansas City Star reports the Chiefs continued their rebuilding process by telling four more veteran players they would be released, sources said. One, CB Ty Law, was a starter last season. Two, LB Kendrell Bell and DT James Reed, are former starters while the fourth player, TE Jason Dunn, was once a key reserve. All of the players are over 30 except Bell, who turns 30 in July. The Chiefs have either released or will release six veterans who had 2008 contracts. Baltimore Ravens 02/27/2008 4:45 PMThe Baltimore Sun reports starting left OG Jason Brown is expected to remain with the Ravens this season after the team gave the restricted free agent a second-round tender today. The Ravens would have first right of refusal if another team signs Brown to an offer sheet, or they would receive a second-round pick as compensation for losing him. With a second-round tender, Brown would earn $1.47 million this season.Read more
New York Jets 02/27/2008 4:40 PMThe Star-Ledger reports the Jets began housecleaning yesterday by waiving starting left OG Adrien Clarke and releasing WR Justin McCareins and CB Andre Dyson. None of the moves was unexpected. By releasing McCareins, the Jets save his $1.08 million base salary in 2008 and a $2.5 million roster bonus that was due him next month. Dyson was due to earn a $1.2 million base salary in 2008. The Jets are thought to be roughly $20 million to $25 million under the $116-million salary cap with free agency set to begin Friday. Steelers left OG Alan Faneca and Patriots CB Asante Samuel are believed to be among the players on the Jets' radar.Read more
