Hours after the free-agency period began at 12:01 a.m., the Dolphins invited Oakland QB Josh McCown in for a visit, an NFL source confirmed. McCown, 28, has started 31 NFL games in six seasons, including his first four in Arizona. Last season, McCown started nine games for the Raiders, sharing time with ex-Dolphin Daunte Culpepper while the team groomed No. 1 pick JaMarcus Russell. McCown, listed at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, finished with 10 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions.Read more
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 02/29/2008 1:01 PMESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports armed with $44 million in salary cap room, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers spent very little time spending some of their rare bounty, reaching an early Friday morning contract agreement with unrestricted free agent C Jeff Faine, who played with the New Orleans Saints the past two years. Contract details were not immediately available, but league sources said the deal will make Faine one of the NFL's highest paid centers and surpass the six-year, $36 million contract that another former New Orleans C LeCharles Bentley, signed with Cleveland as a free agent in 2006.Read more
Buffalo Bills 02/29/2008 12:54 PMESPN’s John Clayton reports LB Kawika Mitchell took a chance in free agency last winter and ended up with a Super Bowl ring as a member of the New York Giants. On Friday, Mitchell chased the money, and landed a multi-year contract with the Buffalo Bills. Terms of the deal weren't immediately available. The Bills are aggressively trying to improve their defense. Mitchell's signing helps their linebacking corps, and the Bills have Jaguars DT Marcus Stroud in their building Friday for a visit. Minnesota Vikings 02/29/2008 12:50 PMESPN’s John Clayton reports an all-night negotiations session with the Minnesota Vikings produced a deal that has made S Madieu Williams a formal Bengal and now one of the highest-paid safeties in the NFL. Williams, 26, agreed to a six-year, $33 million contract Friday morning after his agent, Ken Zuckerman, and Minnesota officials worked through the night to get a deal done. As both sides spelled out the final language of the contract, Williams headed to the airport Friday morning for a flight to Minneapolis to sign the deal.Read more
