Cincinnati Bengals
11/25/2008 8:16 AM
The Dayton Daily News reports the injuries suffered by defensive ends Robert Geathers (knee) and Frostee Rucker (hamstring) at Pittsburgh were severe enough to end their seasons. Both were placed on Injured Reserve on Monday, Nov. 24, leaving the defensive line dangerously thin with five games remaining. To bolster the depth on both injury-riddled lines, the club signed a pair of fourth-year journeymen from the Southeastern Conference in defensive end Josh Mallard (Georgia) and guard Evan Mathis (Alabama). Rodgers aims not to get picked

Green Bay Packers
11/24/2008 9:17 AM
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports make no mistake about it, when quarterback Aaron Rodgers takes the snap in the Green Bay Packers' critically important showdown with the New Orleans Saints tonight, his No. 1 priority won't be throwing touchdowns, scrambling for first downs or making sure receiver Greg Jennings gets the ball. No, it will be the same as it has been all year: Don't throw an interception. Under coach Mike McCarthy, the passing offense ranks 11th in total yards and ninth in touchdowns, so it's not like Rodgers is handing the ball off every time. But the number that pleases McCarthy the most is 1.9, which is the percent of Rodgers' throws that have resulted in interceptions. Read more

Falcons rookie Douglas has breakout game

Atlanta Falcons
11/24/2008 9:12 AM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Falcons rookie receiver and punt returner Harry Douglas came out of his skin Sunday afternoon against Carolina. He scored the first touchdown of his career on a 7-yard reverse, gave the ball to his mother, and scored another one on a 61-yard punt return, to give to his father. Stephanie and Harry Douglas III of Jonesboro walked down five steps in the stands behind the Falcons bench to get their matching souvenirs. In between collecting balls, Douglas turned a third-and-11, get-a-first-down catch into a 69-yard dagger that got the Falcons to the Carolina 6-yard line. That set up the fourth-and-goal touchdown by Michael Turner for a 10-point lead that defined the Falcons’ 45-28 win. Read more

Drew provides lone highlight

Jacksonville Jaguars
11/24/2008 9:03 AM
The Florida Times-Union reports RB Maurice Drew wasn't in the mood to celebrate - even though he made franchise history on Sunday. The Jacksonville running back caught nine passes for 113 yards in the team's 30-12 loss to Minnesota at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. The yardage total set a team record for most by a running back in a game, and the nine catches tied Fred Taylor's mark set against Baltimore on Sept. 20, 1998. Drew also extended his streak of consecutive games with at least one catch to 30. "That's not the real story today," Drew said. "This was a tough loss and what I did is nothing compared to losing the game. We've got to get this figured out." Drew was Jacksonville's lone highlight in a disappointing defeat. The Jaguars had nine pass plays against Minnesota cover at least 13 yards. Drew accounted for four of them, and no other player had more than one. Read more
