New York Giants waiting to learn severity of Burress' injury

The Star-Ledger reports WR Plaxico Burress underwent tests on his hamstring Monday after leaving Sunday's win over the Cardinals following the Giants' first series, coach Tom Coughlin said. Asked if he thought Burress made the injury worse by playing, Coughlin said, "I don't know. I don't think so. But we are going to have to wait and see based on today." The results were not available during Coughlin's afternoon conference call with reporters. Burress, who injured his hamstring in practice last Wednesday, was active for Sunday's game after being listed on the injury report as questionable. He played the first series, catching one 6-yard pass that was overturned by an illegal formation penalty, but evidently reaggravated his injury after quarterback Eli Manning aired it out to him two plays later. Dolphins Camarillo will miss rest of the season with a torn ACL

The Palm Beach Post reports after seven straight games on the bench, wide receiver Ernest Wilford might finally get the chance to earn his $7 million salary. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, Wilford's opportunity comes through a painful expense - a season-ending knee injury to leading receiver Greg Camarillo. Camarillo's father, Al, said his son suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee during the fourth quarter of Sunday's 48-28 loss to New England. Dr. James Andrews, the renowned orthopedic surgeon from Birmingham, Ala., will perform surgery in two-three weeks. Read more

Ailing Abraham likely to play vs. Chargers

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports it’s been a struggle for defensive end John Abraham the last three games, playing through pain in his left shoulder after suffering a stinger against New Orleans Nov. 9. He went down again in the fourth quarter against Carolina and sat out the last 13 minutes of the game. But Falcons coach Mike Smith said Monday Abraham should be able to go Sunday in San Diego. Ward honored for service

The Post-Gazette reports WR Hines Ward, who leads the team with 54 catches, 718 receiving yards and 5 touchdown catches, has been cited for his off-field accomplishments. Ward has been named the Steelers' 2008 Walter Payton Man of the Year, an award that recognizes a player's off-the-field community service as well as his playing achievements. For the past three years, Ward has hosted biracial Korean children for a weekend visit to Pittsburgh and annually travels to Korea during the offseason to reunite with those children. Read more
