Reports: Weapons, ammo seized at Burress' NJ home

AP reports authorities seized a small cache of weapons and ammunition from the New Jersey home of New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress, the New York Post and Newsday both reported Wednesday, possibly setting up the embattled player for more legal trouble. The Post, citing anonymous law enforcement sources, said a 9-mm handgun, a rifle and ammunition for three other guns — a .380, a .45 and a .40, the same caliber of gun Burress accidentally shot himself with — were seized during the execution of a search warrant at Burress' home in Totowa. Benjamin Brafman, the star receiver's criminal attorney, said Tuesday night that he was aware of only a rifle being taken from the home. Read more

Panthers backup DT Gibson is out for season

The Charlotte Observer reports the Carolina Panthers' depth at defensive line took another hit Tuesday when the team placed backup tackle Gary Gibson on injured reserve. Gibson, who has an injured hand, will miss the rest of the season. The Panthers signed defensive tackle J'Vonne Parker to replace Gibson. Parker has been on the Atlanta Falcons' practice squad this season and was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Cleveland Browns in 2005. Parker, who has played 11 games in his NFL career, played college ball at Rutgers and was born in Roanoke Rapids. Read more

The Detroit Free Press reports the Lions claimed wide receiver Chris Hannon off waivers from Miami and signed offensive lineman Junius Coston, while putting guard Edwin Mulitalo (ankle) and linebacker Jordon Dizon (hamstring) on injured reserve, chief operating officer Tom Lewand confirmed. Romo pledges to clean up mistakes

The Star-Telegram reports there is a perception that QB Tony Romo has a glib attitude towards ball security and turnovers, which he didn’t help immediately after the Week 16 loss against the Baltimore Ravens when he said one of his two interceptions was like a punt. That particular interception led to a Ravens field goal at the end of the first half, which was their first lead of the game. On Tuesday, Romo wanted to clarify the notion that looks at interceptions as glorified punts. Read more
