Carolina Panthers 01/24/2007 9:55 AMThe Charlotte Observer reports the Carolina Panthers will put their offense in the hands of a coach with three Super Bowl rings. Former Cleveland Browns assistant head coach Jeff Davidson agreed to a contract Tuesday night to be Carolina's offensive coordinator. Davidson, 39, will replace Dan Henning, who was fired after the Panthers went 8-8. Tight ends coach Dave Magazu also was shifted to offensive line coach to replace Mike Maser, who was fired at the same time as Henning.Read more
Arizona Cardinals 01/24/2007 9:05 AMThe Arizona Republic reports Cardinals HC Ken Whisenhunt made a key addition to his staff Tuesday, hiring Russ Grimm as assistant head coach/offensive line, the team announced. Grimm held that same position with the Steelers and was a finalist to replace Bill Cowher in Pittsburgh. But Mike Tomlin was hired for the job, and the Steelers released Grimm from his contract. So Grimm decided to join Whisenhunt in Arizona. Both men also interviewed for the Cardinals job. Itâs a major coup for the Cardinals, because Grimm is well regarded in NFL for building strong offensive line and physical running attacks.Read more
Detroit Lions 01/24/2007 8:55 AMThe Detroit Free Press reports the Lions have reached a deal with WR Mike Furrey and are expected to announce it today. They are not close to a deal with defensive lineman Cory Redding, but coach Rod Marinelli sounds like he will not let him go. Furrey and Redding raised their stock considerably in 2006. Furrey led the NFC in receptions with 98 after having caught only 21 passes in his NFL career. Redding had eight sacks in 11 games after moving from end to tackle. Both are to become unrestricted free agents March 2. Marinelli said Tuesday morning the Lions were "crossing T's and dotting I's" on a contract extension for Furrey. Philadelphia Eagles 01/24/2007 8:52 AMThe Trenton Times reports John Harbaugh will miss the Thursday press conferences and the thrill of being in charge of so many crucial elements on game day. At the same time, he is anxious to begin the next phase of his coaching career. That's why he was so excited about being switched from Eagles special teams coordinator to secondary coach yesterday. Harbaugh will replace Sean McDermott, who now is the team's linebackers coach. The moves were necessitated when linebackers coach Steve Spagnuolo was hired Monday to be the Giants' defensive coordinator.Read more
