Denver Broncos 01/29/2007 9:54 AMThe Denver Post reports Friday, the Broncos became the clear winner in the unique three-way trade involving Atlanta and Washington in August. Utilizing a stipulation on playing time in the contract he signed with the Broncos when he was taken in the first round in 2002, WR Ashley Lelie voided his contract with the Falcons, which had one more year remaining. Lelie will become an unrestricted free agent in March. The other key figure in the deal, Washington RB T.J. Duckett, is also set to be an unrestricted free agent this spring. The Broncos will get an early third-round pick this year and a fourth-rounder in 2008 as their compensation in the deal.Read more
Arizona Cardinals 01/29/2007 9:44 AMThe Arizona Republic Reports the Cardinals are expected to hire Maurice Carthon, formerly the Browns' offensive coordinator, as coach running backs. Carthon, 35, played fullback for the Giants and Colts and has been a coach in the NFL since 1994. He joined the Browns as offensive coordinator in 2005 but was fired during last season. He also has coached with the Patriots, Jets, Lions and Cowboys. Carthon and Cardinals HC Ken Whisenhunt were assistants with the Jets in 2000. Carthon's hiring is expected to be announced within the next few days. He will be the eighth assistant hired by Whisenhunt, who has a handful of other slots to fill.Read more
San Francisco 49ers 01/29/2007 9:39 AMThe Contra Costa Times reports Norv Turner interviewed for the Dallas Cowboys' head coaching job Sunday, becoming the seventh -- and likely final -- candidate being considered by owner Jerry Jones. "I was excited to get a chance to visit and talk about things that are important to me," said Turner, the 49ers' offensive coordinator. Turner was the offensive coordinator in Dallas from 1991-93. He called the plays that helped catapult the Cowboys to Super Bowl titles his final two seasons.Read more
Dallas Cowboys 01/29/2007 9:26 AMThe Star-Telegram reports quarterbacks coach Chris Palmer is leaving the Cowboys to reunite with another former boss. Palmer has taken the same position with the New York Giants and HC Tom Coughlin. Palmer was Coughlin's offensive coordinator in 1997-98 with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He will now oversee QB Eli Manning's development after helping QB Tony Romo reach the Pro Bowl.Read more
