Green Bay Packers 02/14/2007 7:43 AMESPNâs Len Pasquarelli reports veteran CB Al Harris, arguably the league's best coverage player who has never been selected to a Pro Bowl, has signed a two-year contract extension with the Green Bay Packers. The deal is an add-on to the five-year, $18.7 million extension that Harris signed in 2004, a contract that included about $7 million in guarantees. San Francisco 49ers 02/13/2007 10:46 AMThe Contra Costa Times reports preliminary contract talks are under way aimed at bringing DL Bryant Young back with the 49ers for a 14th season, team officials said Monday. "The team is pretty confident that a deal will be worked out," club spokesman Aaron Salkin said. It's believed the 49ers are discussing a one-year deal with Young, 35, and his agent, Don Yee. Young could become an unrestricted free agent next month but has said that if he continues his playing career, it will be with the 49ers. HC Mike Nolan said after the season that he would like to have Young back on the team. Nolan said Young, a four-time Pro Bowler whose 5.5 sacks led 49ers defensive linemen, remains capable of making his presence felt on the field and as a team leader.Read more

Less than a month since he was hired to replace retired GM Ernie Accorsi, Reese cut three veterans yesterday who were starters last season: left OT Luke Petitgout and outside linebackers LaVar Arrington and Carlos Emmons. Returner Chad Morton might also be cut soon. Backup OT Bob Whitfield will file his retirement papers today -- one day after RB Tiki Barber made his retirement official.Read more

With the legal cases of his sons, 23-year-old Garrett and 21-year-old Britt, in the hands of the Pennsylvania attorney general's office following separate incidents involving drugs and weapons Jan. 30, Reid will skip next week's NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis and abdi cate some of his other responsibilities "until approximately mid- March," according to a press re lease issued by the team yesterday morning.Read more
