Pollack out for '07

The official website of the Cincinnati Bengals reports the Bengals do not anticipate LB David Pollack playing in 2007. Pollack suffered a neck fracture on Sept. 17 of last season, against Cleveland at Paul Brown Stadium. He missed the remainder of the season, and he underwent surgery to repair the fracture on Jan. 3 of this year. His recovery is ongoing. “David and the team agree that he is not physically ready to play this season,” said HC Marvin Lewis. “He is working extremely hard and will continue focusing his efforts on rehabilitating with our medical staff.” Read more

Colts activate Simon, but reason uncertain

The Indianapolis Star reports DT Corey Simon was activated from the physically unable to perform list by the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday. No one was more surprised than Simon. What the Colts intend was unclear. Simon refused to discuss the possibilities and club president Bill Polian, the team's spokesman on player issues, did not immediately respond to an interview request. The activation could be a procedural step in the process of terminating the seven-year veteran's contract. In two years since signing with the Colts, Simon has been paid more than $14 million in bonuses and salary but played only 13 regular-season games. Read more

Hawks CB released for roster space

The Seattle Times reports the Seahawks moved closer to finalizing their training-camp roster Wednesday, releasing injured CB Rich Gardner to make room for sixth-round draft pick WR Courtney Taylor, whose signing was made official. The team has apparently agreed to terms with seventh-round pick OT Steve Vallos with contract terms unconfirmed, leaving three more picks to sign — second-rounder DB Josh Wilson, third-round choice DT Brandon Mebane and the first of two fourth-round picks, DE Baraka Atkins. Betts preparing for dogfight for job with Colts

The Dayton Daily News reports former Miami RedHawk quarterback and Vandalia native Josh Betts could be in for the fight of his life when he reports to training camp with the Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts this summer. Betts spent last season on the team's practice squad and is now looking to earn a spot on the active roster, which is a feat itself considering the Colts usually like to carry two quarterbacks, Peyton Manning and Jim Sorgi, on the roster. The team made things more difficult for Betts this off-season when it added another signal-caller to the mix. The Colts signed veteran QB John Navarre, who spent the last three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, which should make for an interesting battle at the No. 3 quarterback position. Read more
