Timmons to get second opinion

The Post-Gazette reports the Steelers sent rookie LB Lawrence Timmons, their first-round draft choice, to a doctor in Philadelphia today to get a second opinion on his troubling groin injury. Timmons, the team's first-round draft pick, has not practiced in two weeks since the groin was re-injured on the third day of training camp practices at Saint Vincent College. He also missed all the spring drills after the groin was first hit in his first practice after being the 15th player taken in the NFL draft. Read more

OG Andrews out with ankle injury

AP reports Philadelphia Eagles OG Shawn Andrews will be sidelined indefinitely with a right ankle injury. A Pro Bowler last season when he became a dominant player at right guard, the 6-4, 335-pound Andrews missed practice Thursday morning. Eagles HC Andy Reid indicated the injury to Andrews, who saw a specialist in Philadelphia on Wednesday, could be serious. "His ankle will continue to be monitored and evaluated over the next several days," Reid said. "He will rest it during that time with the use of a walking boot and crutches." A 2004 first-round pick, Andrews' rookie campaign ended in his first regular-season game, when he suffered a fractured right fibula. He started all 16 games in each of the last two seasons. Ginn Jr. shaky in camp

The Palm Beach Post reports rookie WR Ted Ginn Jr. was drafted ninth to provide instant impact to the return teams while he develops his receiver skills. But Ginn showed some shaky technique Wednesday that could lead to a turnover. He misjudged the distance on one kickoff and caught the ball with his hands above his head, rather than underhanded. He caught the next kickoff with his hands at eye level. Ginn has sure hands, but his technique is the precursor for a fumble. Read more

Browns' Steinbach sprains knee in practice

NFL.com wire reports Browns OG Eric Steinbach sprained his right knee when he fell on it at practice, an injury the club will surely treat cautiously for the remainder of training camp. Steinbach, Cleveland's biggest free-agent signing during the offseason, hurt his knee during the Browns' indoor workout Aug. 7. He walked off the field without a limp, escorted by a team trainer, and did not return. Read more
