Bodden says arrest not a distraction

09/06/2007 4:05 PM The Dayton Daily News reports Browns CB Leigh Bodden pleaded not guilty this morning in Cleveland Municipal Court to charges stemming from Wednesday's arrest outside Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. Bodden was not in court on the advice of his lawyer, Matthew Selby, who entered the plea on behalf of his client. Bodden is charged with aggravated disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Bond was set at $1,000. A pre-trial hearing is scheduled for Sept. 25. Read more

Bengals' Smith in a rush to expand skills

09/06/2007 4:03 PM The Dayton Daily News reports Bengals HC Marvin Lewis notices a difference in DE Justin Smith this season. The right defensive end isn't just trying to bull-rush offensive tackles. He has more pass-rush moves in his repertoire. "I see a guy who is really trying to become a pass rusher at the next level," Lewis said. "Justin's going to play hard and make sure he's in the right spots. That's something we'd like him to become a little more consistent at."We also want to see him continue to progress as a pass rusher. I see a little difference in those things and that's good. We may not see results right away. But over time, you're able to see an improvement in those areas." Read more

New deal for Pat Williams

09/06/2007 4:00 PM ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports DT Pat Williams, one of the NFL's most dominant interior players against the run, has reached agreement in principle with the Minnesota Vikings on a three-year contract extension that runs through the 2010 season. The deal, reported by the St. Paul Pioneer-Press and confirmed by sources close to Williams, will be officially signed before the start of the regular season. The extension, which had been a stated offseason priority for the Vikings but took longer to complete than most thought it would, is worth $22 million in so-called new money. Read more

Holmes to concentrate on receiving
