Hoover can become free agent

The Charlotte Observer reports FB Brad Hoover can become a free agent in the offseason, but he's spent his entire eight-year career with Carolina and would like to return. "I can't sit here and worry about it, but naturally this is where I'd like to be if it all works out," he said. "But it's out of my hands now." Peterson was late for bus

The Pioneer Press reports heading into Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos on a three-game funk, Vikings rookie RB Adrian Peterson certainly didn't start the way he wanted. Peterson watched the opening series from the sideline because he was late to a team bus Sunday, an infraction that costs a starter a fine as well as the opening series. "I understand," Peterson said of the decision by coach Brad Childress. "That's one thing about Coach. Everybody is looked at the same way, no matter if it's a star or not. If you're late for something, that's the consequence, no matter if it's your first offense or you did it several times." Read more

Celek catches his first

The Trenton Times reports Eagles rookie TE Brent Celek, a fifth-round draft pick, started his second-straight game and caught his first touchdown pass. He finished the season with only 16 receptions for 178 yards, but eight of those catches came over the last three games. Read more

Smith shows promise

The Baltimore Sun reports Ravens rookie QB Troy Smith started his second straight game yesterday, and his performance was an upgrade over last week in Seattle. Smith didn't look as if he would become an eventual Hall of Famer, but he showed poise, made some big throws and did a solid job managing the game. You can find enough good and bad things about his play to knock or applaud him, but the bottom line is that Smith has gotten better. Read more
