Lynch facing emotional decision about retiring

The Denver Post reports teammates began to wonder if this really was it for S John Lynch when they saw him with tears coming down his face in the Broncos' locker room Sunday after the game against the Minnesota Vikings. Lynch is considering retiring, and after the game it was clear this may have been it for him. But Lynch, who appeared to choke up during his postgame press briefing, said he is unclear of what he will do. "Your guess is as good as mine," he said. Fitzgerald caps season with gem

The Arizona Republic reports the NFL has finally collared WR Larry Fitzgerald. It's something that league defensive backs have been trying to do for four seasons. "Somebody snitched on me," Fitzgerald said. "I just got a letter from the league. The league told me I had to be in the locker room (after the game). I didn't want a $10,000 fine today." Notorious for blowing off press coverage off the field, Fitzgerald's final game of the 2007 season was nevertheless a banner effort. He caught 11 passes for 171 yards in the Cardinals' 48-19 win over the Rams Sunday, reaching the 100-reception plateau for the second time in his four-year career. Read more

McCloughan might be promoted to G.M.

The Mercury News reports plans by owners John and Denise York to restructure the 49ers' front office seem certain to include Scot McCloughan, the team's vice president of player personnel. In a brief interview at halftime of the 49ers' season-ending 20-7 loss to Cleveland on Sunday, McCloughan confirmed he has had several meetings with the Yorks about the possibility of becoming the team's general manager. "There have been some discussions," said McCloughan, adding that his future is firmly tied with the 49ers organization. "I'm not leaving, I'll say that," McCloughan said. Read more

Sanders already repaying Colts

The Indianapolis Star reports with an opportunity to test his value on the free agent market at the end of the season, S Bob Sanders decided there is no place like Indianapolis. The Colts signed their Pro Bowl safety through the 2012 season with a five-year, $37.5 million contract extension Friday. Sunday evening in the RCA Dome, he started repaying the organization by contributing six solo tackles and one sack as the Colts dropped a 16-10 decision to the Tennessee Titans. Read more
