Baltimore Ravens 01/07/2008 9:18 AMThe Baltimore Sun reports as the Ravens wrapped up their interview with recently dismissed defensive coordinator Rex Ryan yesterday, they could turn their attention to a Schottenheimer or two. Brian Schottenheimer, the New York Jets' offensive coordinator the past two seasons, is expected to meet with the Ravens as early as today. Under Schottenheimer, the Jets' offense finished 25th in 2006 and 26th this season. Then, much later in the Ravens' search process, the team might meet with Marty Schottenheimer, Brian's father. According to Foxsports.com, the Ravens have contacted Marty Schottenheimer but he doesn't want to interview in the first round of talks.Read more
St. Louis Rams 01/07/2008 9:11 AMThe St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports offensive coordinator Greg Olson and offensive line coach Paul Boudreau are on the way out with the Rams, and recently fired Miami Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron could be on the way as Olson's replacement. Although the Rams have not announced either Olson's or Boudreau's dismissal, ESPN has reported that both assistants are out. Olson was removed from his play-calling duties four games into the 2007 season, with head coach Scott Linehan taking over. But the offense never really clicked with Linehan calling plays, either, over the rest of an injury-plagued 3-13 season.Read more
Oakland Raiders 01/07/2008 9:05 AMThe San Francisco Chronicle reports Raiders CBNnamdi Asomugha is recognized as one of the NFL's premier cornerbacks in man coverage, and someone teams stopped throwing near after an eight-pick season in 2006. Once Asomugha opts out of his contract - a formality at this point - he'll become an unrestricted free agent. He would demand the biggest cornerback contract this side of Asante Samuel. That's not going to happen. The Raiders will use the franchise-player tag on Asomugha, paying him an estimated $9.2 million for one year of service. They'd like to secure him with a long-term contract, but that ship appears to have sailed.Read more
San Francisco 49ers 01/07/2008 8:58 AMThe Mercury News reports Mike Martz, known for his pedal-to-the-metal approach as a play-caller, is scheduled to interview today for the 49ers' offensive-coordinator position. Martz, dismissed last week as Detroit's offensive coordinator, is the second to interview for the position since 49ers Coach Mike Nolan fired Jim Hostler after the season. Former Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey, a two-time NFL offensive coordinator who also served as Dallas Cowboys head coach, interviewed with Nolan on Saturday.Read more
