The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports with limited opportunities to play as LaDainian Tomlinson's backup during four seasons in San Diego, RB Michael Turner typically cashed in on his opportunities. The Falcons hope he cashes in on the chance they're providing him to become their starting tailback. The Falcons spent Friday, the first day of free agency, wooing Turner, who is considered the top running back available. Tennessee free agent TE Ben Hartsock also met with the Falcons, and Jacksonville OL Maurice Williams was involved in contract talks with the team. Read more

Parcells' Dolphins bring in seven new players

The Palm Beach Post reports with plenty of money to spend to rebuild the NFL's worst team, Bill Parcells and the new Dolphins regime got off to a fast start Friday on the opening day of free agency. Their biggest move was signing a potential starting quarterback. The Dolphins, who began the day with nearly $40 million in salary-cap space, signed former Raiders QB Josh McCown to a two-year deal worth $6.25 million. Read more

The Detroit Free Press reports Big Baby was the big news Friday as the Lions traded DT Shaun Rogers to Cincinnati -- and then to Cleveland. The Lions had a deal with the Bengals for third- and fifth-round draft picks. They confirmed it. The Bengals didn't, though their official Web site reported it, as did numerous media outlets. But the trade did not go through -- why it didn't remains unclear -- and the Lions reached a deal with Cleveland for a third-round pick and CB Leigh Bodden, a source said. Read more

Bruce signs two-year, $6 million deal with 49ers

ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports in a move that reunites him with former head coach Mike Martz, free agent WR Isaac Bruce, released by St. Louis this week after 14 seasons with the Rams, has signed a two-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers. The contract, ESPN.com confirmed, is worth $6 million. A former Rams' head coach, Martz was hired by the 49ers last month as the team's third different offensive coordinator in three years. It had been speculated since the Rams released Bruce this week, that he would join Martz with the 49ers. Read more
