Hours before they were going to cut QB Brian Griese, the Bears shipped the veteran quarterback to Tampa Bay for a sixth-round draft pick in 2009. Then the club bid goodbye to two-time Pro Bowl special teams player Brendon Ayanbadejo, pulling a four-year contract offer that he had had for some time. Griese, who will receive a $300,000 roster bonus today from the Buccaneers, winds up back where he was before he signed with the Bears two seasons ago.Read more

Denver Broncos 03/04/2008 1:15 PMThe Denver Post reports the Broncos are standing by DT Marcus Thomas, who was riding in a pickup early Saturday in which cocaine was found. The Broncos and Thomas' agent, Richard Burnoski, said Monday the driver of the car, Bryce Carter, admitted the cocaine was his. That confession was not part of the police report. Carter and Thomas, 22, denied ownership of the cocaine, the officers said. If charges are pursued, Thomas may subject himself to a polygraph test. Thomas was not available for comment Monday, but he has talked with Broncos coach Mike Shanahan.Read more
