Cadillac Williams may have torn other patellar tendon

The Tampa Tribune reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Cadillac Williams may have suffered another major setback. Williams injured his left knee during the fourth quarter of Tampa Bay’s loss against Oakland, which Bucs coach Jon Gruden categorized as a major knee injury. Gruden would not give the details, but teammates have indicated Williams tore the patellar tendon in his left knee. Read more

The Post-Gazette reports the Steelers yesterday used the lowly Cleveland Browns to triumphantly springboard into the playoffs, but not before their quarterback put a momentary lump in their throats when he was carted off the field just before the first half. But Ben Roethlisberger, who has made comebacks on and off the field a hallmark of his five-year career, likely will do it again. He was diagnosed with a concussion and "At this point, all tests are negative, which is positive," coach Mike Tomlin said. "We are optimistic of where he is going to be capable of being." Read more

Romo collapses in shower following the game

The Star-Telegram reports the Dallas Cowboys had a minor medical emergency and some panic in the locker room Sunday after the 44-6 loss to Philadelphia. Quarterback Tony Romo, who suffered a rib injury late in the game, collapsed in the shower and had to be helped to his feet by teammates. Romo had X-rays after being attended to by the team’s athletic trainers. When he fell, teammates rushed to his aid and one player called for paramedics. Read more

Browns make it official: GM Phil Savage is fired

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the Phil Savage era as Browns general manager is over. Shortly after the Browns completed a 4-12 season with a 31-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Browns confirmed Sunday that Savage was fired. Owner Randy Lerner made the decision before the game. A source said the decision was based on problems with Savage's communication and leadership skills. Lerner is hoping to recruit former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher or New England vice president Scott Pioli to head his revamped football operation. Read more
