The Indianapolis Star reports fast friendships are cemented between roommates. DE Dwight Freeney and RB Edgerrin James roomed together for three years, and theirs is a competitive nature a room could scarcely contain. Freeney so dominated and frustrated James that they quit playing video football. James so dominated and frustrated Freeney that they quit playing chess. Williams to start at CB for Falcons

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports with the Falcons' season in the balance, CB Jimmy Williams is getting his chance. The team's top draft choice has bided his time, gone through the trials of a rookie season and had his playing time limited by an ankle sprain. For Sunday's regular-season home finale against Carolina wide receivers Steve Smith and Keyshawn Johnson, Williams has been named the starting right cornerback. He will replace Allen Rossum, who has started or played most of the snaps at right cornerback the past month and will remain as the nickel back in five-man coverages. Read more

The Palm Beach Post reports RB Ronnie Brown practiced for the first time since breaking his left hand against the Detroit Lions on Nov. 23. "Physically, it felt pretty good," said Brown, who is listed as questionable. "I'm doing everything, participating in all the drills so it's like a normal practice for me." Brown is wearing a pad on the top of the hand and underneath his glove. It did not restrict Brown's ability to catch the ball. Brown said he expects RB Sammy Morris to start against the Jets. Anderson to start Sunday

AP reports Browns HC Romeo Crennel also announced that QB Derek Anderson will start Sunday against Tampa Bay. Anderson will make his third start since QB Charlie Frye bruised his right wrist in Cleveland's Dec. 3 win over Kansas City. Read more
