Faneca sees Cowher resigning

The Post Gazette reports All-Pro OG Alan Faneca said today he thinks HC Bill Cowher will soon quit as Steelers coach, ending a 15-year reign with the team. "I think he's definitely leaning toward calling it a day, but you never know," Faneca said after meeting with Cowher this morning. "He said he's going to step away and let the emotions set and get back with his family and make a decision." Cowher talked to the team as a whole at a 10 a.m. meeting today, then began meeting individually with players, starting with the team's oldest veterans. Read more

Mora fired as Falcons seek new direction

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Falcons HC Jim Mora was fired today — New Year's Day — as team owner Arthur Blank deemed the direction of the team needed to be changed. Mora's three-year tenure ended with a tumultuous three-game losing streak that brought his overall record to 26-22. Mora is the second coach in the franchise's 41-year history to be fired with a winning record. Read more

Dennis Green fired

The Arizona Republic reports Cardinals HC Dennis Green was fired Monday, a day after his team concluded its third straight losing season under his guidance. The team has called a 2 p.m. news conference. Green was 16-32 and is owed about $2.5 million for the fourth and final year of his contract. Green came to Arizona in 2004 promising immediate success and predicting 10 victories in his first season. Instead, the Cardinals made no progress, going 6-10, 5-11 and 5-11 the last three years.
