The Trenton Times reports concerned over the confidence of K David Akers and a bobbled hold by Dirk Johnson in Sunday's 24-17 win over Atlanta, the Eagles may bring back an old friend for the playoffs. Quarterback/holder Koy Detmer could be signed as early as today, The Times has learned, and will replace P Dirk Johnson as the holder for Akers on field goals and extra points. Read more

Lions' Henderson won't return

The Detroit Free Press reports HC Rod Marinelli will announce today that defensive coordinator Donnie Henderson will not return to the Lions next season, an NFL source said Monday. Marinelli and Henderson have agreed to a mutual parting because they have different defensive philosophies. They have a strong relationship that goes back to the late 1970s and a lot of respect for each other. But Henderson had no background in the Tampa Two system that Marinelli brought from Tampa Bay and never grew comfortable in it this season. Read more

Dyson, Barlow out against Pats

The Star-Ledger reports the injury bug has bit the Jets and Patriots as they prepared for their wild-card round clash at Gillette Stadium on Sunday. The Jets will be without CB Andre Dyson (sprained knee) and RB Kevan Barlow (thigh), according to a member of the organization who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of HC Eric Mangini's policy of not giving out details on injuries. Fletcher does some venting

The Buffalo News reports it looked, sounded and felt like a farewell for LB London Fletcher on Monday. The Buffalo Bills' linebacker, who is set to become a free agent in March, for the first time expressed his deep frustration that the Bills did not extend his contract this season. "I wasn't happy about having to play this year without having a contract extension," Fletcher said. "I was not happy at all. . . . I was not at all happy about having to be forced to play out my contract when my performance four years prior to that, three years prior to that, two years prior to that, should have merited an extension well before this."
