Bengals Designate four for NFL Europe

The Cincinnati Bengals today designated four players for allocation to the NFL Europe League for 2006. The four are OT Alan Reuber of Texas A&M, LB Jason Berryman of Iowa State, TE Sean Mulcahy of Connecticut and DL Jimmy Verdon of Arizona State. Read more

Instant Rice

The Detroit Free Press reports the Lions need a pass rusher, and Tampa Bay DE Simeon Rice is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent March 2. Rice, Marinelli and Barry know each other well. Marinelli was the Buccaneers' defensive line coach for 10 years before he came to Detroit last January. Barry declined to comment because Rice is still under contract with the Bucs, except to say, "Simeon Rice is a special player. A lot of the success we had in Tampa Bay was because of Simeon." Falcons add Rivera, Singletary to list

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the Falcons received permission Wednesday to interview Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera and San Francisco 49ers assistant head coach Mike Singletary, the Bears and other sources confirmed. Atlanta will interview Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt Thursday. Read more

Holt might have knee surgery

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports WR Torry Holt has thought about doing an instructional video on the receiver position since his college days. He finally put one together last summer. It includes tips on training, stretching, route-running, etc., with Holt demonstrating the drills himself. Perhaps Holt should have included a segment on dealing with injuries. He came up limping after a touchdown catch against Arizona on Dec. 3 , and he dealt with a nagging knee problem the rest of the season. It looks like Holt will need knee surgery for only the second time in his eight seasons with the Rams, though no official decision has been made. Read more
