Drew finishes tied for second in voting

The Florida Times-Union reports RB Maurice Jones-Drew shredded NFL defenses this year, but he was stopped cold by the QB Vince Young hype machine. The Jaguars' second-round draft choice finished in a tie for second Wednesday with New Orleans WR Marques Colston in voting for The Associated Press offensive rookie of the year. Both were a distant second to Young, who won the award with the votes of 23 of the 50 sports writers and broadcasters who cover the league and formed the selection panel. Read more

Sanders practices again, feels good

The Indianapolis Star reports Colts S Bob Sanders practiced Wednesday, the first time since he underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in late September that he has been able to practice two days in succession. "It's been a long time; I'm excited about it," he said. "Came in this morning, I expected it to be a little sore, but I'm not as sore as I thought I would be." Read more

The Seattle Times reports it turns out the groin injury believed to be affecting WR D.J. Hackett isn't the reason Hackett is questionable this week. It's a right hip flexor that forced Hackett out of practice Wednesday. CB Marcus Trufant (right ankle) is listed as doubtful but won't play, HC Mike Holmgren said. Right OG Chris Gray (right quadriceps), WR Darrell Jackson (left toe) and left OG Floyd Womack (groin) didn't practice and are questionable. Read more

Cards' coach search begins

The Arizona Republic reports the Cardinals kicked off a weeklong schedule of interviews a day earlier than expected, and they didn't have to travel to do it. Clancy Pendergast, the defensive coordinator under Dennis Green the past three seasons, interviewed Tuesday. Cardinals officials didn't announce his interview as they did those of other candidates. Michael Bidwill, the team's vice president and general counsel, and Rod Graves, vice president for football operations, were not available for comment Wednesday. Bidwill and Graves spent Wednesday in Chicago interviewing Bears defensive coordinator Ron Rivera. Read more
