He has missed all but two of the past 14 games while recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery, but for the first time in three months he put together consecutive practices Wednesday and Thursday. Sanders is the defense's energizer, its fastest player, its biggest hitter and probably its surest tackler. New Orleans Saints 01/05/2007 8:00 AMThe Times-Picayune reports WR Joe Horn will return to practice today, his partially torn groin nearly healed after missing the last four weeks of the regular season. The Saints' receiver labeled himself about 80 to 85 percent healthy Thursday, saying he was excited, optimistic and feeling better than he has in weeks. Detroit Lions 01/05/2007 7:58 AMThe Detroit Free Press reports Lions OG Ross Verba was arrested Tuesday night in Wisconsin because he owed $50,000 to a Las Vegas casino. But he paid his debt, his case was dismissed, and he was released Wednesday. A complaint filed in Las Vegas Justice Court accused Verba of passing two bad checks at the Wynn Las Vegas, one for $20,000 on Sept. 18 and a second for $30,000 on Sept. 20, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.Read more
Atlanta Falcons 01/05/2007 7:55 AMThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the Falcons, who conducted their first interview for their vacant head coaching job with Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt on Thursday, received permission to speak to San Diego offensive coordinator Cam Cameron about the position, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. Atlanta must interview Cameron by Sunday evening since the Chargers have a playoff game the following weekend. The interview will take place in San Diego.Read more
