Jones expects Owens, Glenn to return next season

The Star-Telegram reports Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wouldn't speculate about HC Bill Parcells' future with the team, but he was firm about the status of his star receivers. During his weekly radio show on KTCK/1310 AM The Ticket, Jones said he expects to bring back both starting receivers, Terrell Owens and Terry Glenn, next season. Owens is due a $3 million roster bonus in March, and Glenn is scheduled to earn $5 million. Jones became testy when asked about paying both to return. Read more

The Star-Ledger reports despite a delay in the announcement, Giants executive Jerry Reese is still expected to be named the team's new general manager, according to a high-ranking NFL executive familiar with the thinking of the Giants' front office. However, the hiring might not be made official until early next week, said the person, who requested anonymity because the announcement has yet to be made. Read more

Dolphins interview Schottenheimer

The Star-Ledger reports Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, whose work captured the attention of the league, interviewed for the Dolphins' head coaching job yesterday. As first reported in yesterday's Star-Ledger, the Dolphins had asked permission to speak with Schottenheimer. Yesterday morning Dolphins owner Wayne Huizenga and team officials flew to the Northeast to interview Schottenheimer for the job. Read more

Savage: Don't put all blame on Crennel

AP reports Browns GM Phil Savage refuses to make HC Romeo Crennel the scapegoat. Despite a second losing season and Cleveland's failure to beat a team in its division, Savage said one person shouldn't bear the responsibility for everything that went wrong with the team in 2006. "There's no way I can look in the mirror and say all of this is Romeo Crennel's fault," Savage said Wednesday. "It's just not fair to him." Savage blamed injuries, a difficult schedule and the lack of a core group of winning players as the main reasons for the Browns' 4-12 record in his second season in charge. Savage, speaking during a season-ending news conference, reaffirmed that Crennel has the support of his players and that to make a change at head coach would set the franchise back. "I had a number of players come up to me during the latter stage of the year saying, 'We believe in Romeo,'" Savage said. Read more
