New York Jets 01/19/2007 10:20 AMThe Star-Ledger reports Jets HC Eric Mangini has begun a shakeup of his staff, firing two coaches, including veteran defensive line coach Denny Marcin, according to two people with knowledge of the moves. Both persons spoke on condition of anonymity because the Jets haven't made an official announcement. Marcin, a longtime coach with the Giants, was terminated along with assistant running backs/special teams coach Sam Gash. Defensive backs coach Corwin Brown left last week to take the defensive coordinator's job at Notre Dame. And Mangini isn't done, one of the people said.Read more

All-Pro LB Adalius Thomas knows there is a chance he might not make it to free agency. RB Jamal Lewis realizes he might not return. And FB Ovie Mughelli isn't quite sure what to think. The Ravens' priority next month is Thomas, who would be one of the top 10 free agents in the NFL if he hits the market March 2. But the Ravens are expected to use the franchise tag on Thomas by the Feb. 22 deadline if the sides are unable to reach a new contract.Read more
Pittsburgh Steelers 01/19/2007 9:23 AMThe Post-Gazette reports Kevin Spencer likely will become the first Steelers assistant coach to join the new staff of Ken Whisenhunt in Arizona after the Steelers gave the Cardinals permission to talk to their special teams coach. At the same time, the Steelers denied Whisenhunt's request to talk to two other assistants, wide receivers coach Bruce Arians and linebackers coach Keith Butler.Read more
Atlanta Falcons 01/19/2007 8:39 AMThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports QB Michael Vick was scolded by the Falcons owner, the president and the new head coach Thursday for being involved in an incident at Miami International Airport involving a water bottle that police said held a trace substance that smelled like marijuana. At team headquarters, Vick was confronted by owner Arthur Blank, president and general manager Rich McKay and HC Bobby Petrino. McKay did not divulge the exact nature of the meeting but did say the tone was "stressful" and that there wasn't much back-and-forth dialogue. "I met with Michael this morning, the coach did, we clearly expressed our displeasure, had a pretty frank discussion about it," McKay said. "Internally, we will deal with the issue. It's something we should deal with, and we will deal with."Read more
