Dallas Cowboys

The Star-Telegram reports Bill Parcells broke his silence at Valley Ranch. Well, kind of. In a 30-minute interview with New York radio station WFAN on Thursday, Parcells spoke publicly for the first time since his Monday retirement . Parcells has been at the team's headquarters all week at the request of owner Jerry Jones to help with the coaching transition. The hot topic was WR Terrell Owens. Despite what seemed like a yearlong soap opera, Parcells said things weren't as they appeared. He said Owens' problem-filled season wasn't as bad inside the organization as it was portrayed outside. Parcells also said he did his best to utilize Owens' talents. "I tried to make it work as best I could," said Parcells, who did not have a retirement news conference. "It wasn't without a few little things here and there. It was nothing I felt was insurmountable or we never had to draw a line in the sand.... Now, it wasn't perfect. And it wasn't as problematic as it was portrayed." Read more

Henry blasted for embarrassing team

Cincinnati Bengals
01/26/2007 7:18 AM
The Dayton Daily News reports calling WR Chris Henry "the cancer" that triggered the Bengals' season of legal trouble, a Kentucky judge ordered the wide receiver locked up for 48 hours on Thursday. Kenton County District Judge Douglas Grothaus sentenced Henry to 90 days in jail, then suspended all but two days. He ordered Henry to begin serving jail time immediately for allowing minors to drink alcohol in a Covington, Ky., hotel room last April. Henry pleaded guilty to permitting possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages, a class B misdemeanor. He was warned that if he breaks the law again, he'll have to serve the remaining 88 days behind bars. "You brought most of this on yourself, if not all of it," Judge Grothaus said. "You embarrassed yourself. You embarrassed a lot of people, teammates, friends and family, the city, the fans and myself." The earliest Henry can be released from the Kenton County Jail is 9:15 a.m. Saturday. Read more

The Dayton Daily News reports it was cold and windy on Day 2 of practice at college football's Senior Bowl all-star game, but Ohio State QB Troy Smith remained sizzling. Rather than taking a nosedive after the drubbing Ohio State absorbed in the BCS Championship Game against Florida, Smith's draft status appears to be rising. He has impressed the scouts and shows no signs of letting up. Smith got off to a quick start Tuesday by throwing darts all over the field to his receivers. He uncorked a couple of extremely strong throws for completions that had the scouts buzzing. Read more
