The Star-Telegram reports the Cowboys hired Ray Sherman as wide receivers coach and John Garrett to coach tight ends Wednesday. Sherman replaces Todd Haley, who left to become offensive coordinator with Arizona. Read more

Bell, Hall seek trades; Verba, Woody gone?

The Detroit Free Press reports the Lions have granted defensive linemen Marcus Bell and James Hall permission to seek a trade, as they have with CB Dré Bly. OL Ross Verba is expected to be released. OL Damien Woody and WR Mike Williams, who have had weight issues, need to impress in the off-season conditioning program or they could be gone as well. Read more

Ravens undecided on Thomas

The Baltimore Sun reports a week before the NFL deadline, the Ravens remain undecided whether to use the franchise tag to keep All-Pro LB Adalius Thomas. The bigger question, however, is whether they have enough salary cap room to do so. By using the tag for 2007, the Ravens can keep Thomas from becoming a free agent by paying him $7.2 million, which is the average of the five highest-paid linebackers in the league. But it has been estimated that the Ravens have less than $3 million in cap space. Read more

It's time to decide who stays, who goes

The Post-Gazette reports the Steelers start their final evaluations of free agents today as the new coaches join the scouting staff to make up a wish list of players they might add to their team and those they do not want -- perhaps including some of their own. The Steelers have no unrestricted free agents who started for them last season, and only one who is restricted -- offensive right tackle Max Starks. It's likely some players under contract won't be asked back, particularly if the Steelers believe they can release a player to make room under their salary cap to sign another. Read more
