Detroit Lions 02/26/2007 9:07 AMThe Dayton Daily News reports many pro-football prognosticators and draft enthusiasts are expecting to hear a quarterback's name called when the Detroit Lions, who own the second overall pick in this year's draft, make their selection on draft day. Well, I'm not so sure that they will. With the team finishing dead last in sacks allowed with 63, the Lions may opt to address another area of need such as offensive tackle and select Joe Thomas, the top-rated offensive lineman entering the draft. If that is indeed the case, look for the club to snag themselves a quarterback in round two. New Orleans Saints 02/21/2007 8:46 AMThe Times-Picayune reports DE Charles Grant expressed his frustration Tuesday after the Saints designated him as their franchise player. The move requires the Saints to offer Grant a one-year contract worth $8.644 million the average of the top five players at his position. But it prevents the 28-year-old from becoming an unrestricted free agent March 2. Grant can negotiate with other teams, but it is unlikely another team will offer a long-term deal.Read more
Cleveland Browns 02/21/2007 8:33 AMThe Akron Beacon Journal reports GM Phil Savage pretty much confirmed that OL LeCharles Bentley will not be playing for the Browns in 2007. Bentley most likely will have another surgery in May or June on the torn patellar tendon that sidelined him last season. Savage said the Browns would carry Bentley through the 2007 season, then evaluate his future.Read more
Detroit Lions 02/21/2007 8:30 AMThe Detroit Free Press reports the Lions continue to recruit DL Cory Redding, hoping to avoid the delicate move of designating him their franchise player. The deadline for designating franchise players is 4 p.m. Thursday. Redding is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent March 2. "We've been working very hard to try to get him to sign," HC Rod Marinelli said Tuesday. "I still just want to keep working at that. He's a special, special player."Read more
