The Pats are expected to release him before free agency begins at midnight tonight. The franchise record-holder for rushing yards in a season will then be free to negotiate with other teams in hopes of landing a job as a featured back. By releasing him now, the Patriots will save more than $2 million. Dillon would count for $4.4 million against the salary cap if the team retains him.Read more
Atlanta Falcons 03/01/2007 11:17 AMThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the Falcons tendered restricted free agent LB Demorrio Williams a one-year contract of $1.3 million Wednesday. The "intermediate" tender placed on Williams would force another team to compensate Atlanta with a second-round draft pick should it sign him to a free-agent contract offer sheet that the Falcons don't match.Read more

Green Bay Packers 03/01/2007 11:06 AMThe Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports RB Ahman Green said in a television interview over the weekend that he wanted to return to the Packers but wouldn't settle for a one-year deal and would test the market if it's necessary to find out what his market value really is. The Packers and Green have been negotiating for several weeks, but haven't been able to match numbers. Green said he would be a better running back than he was last year because he is more than a year past surgery on a torn right thigh tendon.Read more
