Atlanta Falcons 03/02/2007 8:04 AMThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports by noon Friday, the Falcons will know whether they will be players in free agency or if they'll be anxious observers, waiting a few days, maybe even weeks, for prices â and players â to get in line with their budget. Atlanta entered the free-agent period, which started just after midnight Friday, with roughly $10 million to spend under the $109 million salary cap. Some of that money has been and will continue to be manufactured by the release of veterans who don't fit new HC Bobby Petrino's plans or the Falcons' salary structure.Read more
St. Louis Rams 03/02/2007 7:57 AMThe St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports it's looking more and more as if WR Kevin Curtis could be leaving. "I'm not optimistic, but I also don't know that it isn't possible," HC Scott Linehan said. "I know Kevin's looking for a starting job." But that isn't going to happen in St. Louis unless WR Isaac Bruce startles everyone and announces his retirement. Curtis is expected to pay a free-agent visit today to Minnesota, which is ready to promise him he will be the No. 1 receiver. That's the only visit Curtis currently has planned, but Detroit, Jacksonville, and San Diego are expected to pursue him.Read more
Cleveland Browns 03/02/2007 7:46 AMThe Dayton Daily News reports the Cleveland Browns are $30 million under the NFL salary cap and poised for a big splash in free agency beginning today. If that sounds familiar, it should. They were similarly situated last year only to spend big and win little. On the heels of a 4-12 season, they continue to need help at offensive line, cornerback, running back, defensive line, receiver and possibly quarterback. "We can't just go out and sign everybody," GM Phil Savage cautioned recently. "But we have two or three guys we'd really like to get." They are expected to inquire about Buffalo cornerback (and Cleveland native) Nate Clements, Cincinnati OL Eric Steinbach and Tennessee DL Robaire Smith. Another logical target would be San Diego Chargers OG Kris Dielman, a Troy native.Read more
