Kerney gets big payday with Seattle

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports former Pro bowl DE Patrick Kerney agreed to a six-year, $39.5 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks, with $19.5 million of the deal guaranteed, according to his co-agent, Rich Rosa. The price tag was way too rich for the Falcons to retain the player they drafted in the first round in 1999. Read more

Dolphins deal Welker, cut salary

The Palm Beach Post reports the Miami Dolphins' busiest day of the free-agency period ended with the team better positioned for April's draft and picking up more space under the salary cap. It could be just the beginning of a roster overhaul that might signal a youth movement under first-year HC Cam Cameron and GM Randy Mueller. Miami traded popular WR Wes Welker on Monday for second- and seventh-round draft picks, giving the Dolphins nine picks - and possibly more to come. TE Randy McMichael and his $4 million salary and QB Joey Harrington, who was due a $1 million roster bonus this week, were released. Read more

Patriots linebacker to visit Steelers

The Post-Gazette reports the Steelers take their first steps to try to replace LB Joey Porter when they have a look at the guy who was displaced in New England by LB Adalius Thomas. Tully Banta-Cain, a 26-year-old outside linebacker with the Patriots, will visit the Steelers tomorrow. He played four years with New England and had 5.5 sacks last season, his first as a starter. Ravens widen backfield focus

The Baltimore Sun reports unable to strike a deal with RB Jamal Lewis over the weekend, the Ravens have expanded their free-agent running back search. The Ravens contacted the agents for RB Corey Dillon and RB Chris Brown yesterday, although they are continuing to negotiate with Lewis. It is still believed that the Ravens' preference is to re-sign Lewis, but they don't want to be left without an experienced running back in what has become a dwindling free-agent market. Read more
