Chargers pick Georgia CB in supplemental draft

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the Chargers added depth to their secondary today by selecting Georgia CB Paul Oliver in the fourth round of the NFL supplemental draft. Oliver initially planned to return to school for his senior season, but applied for the supplemental draft after he was ruled academically ineligible several months ago. The Chargers return their top three cornerbacks from last season in 2006 starters Quentin Jammer and Drayton Florence, as well as nickel back Antonio Cromartie. But Florence is expected to leave next offseason as a free agent, and the acquisition of Oliver will soften the impact of the departure, should it happen. Read more

And because most of America believes Bonds used steroids for years, much of the country falls between apathetic and appalled. Sometime in September, Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre figures to achieve the Holy Grail of football records when he passes Dan Marino for the most touchdown passes in NFL history. Bills reach deal with QB Edwards

The Buffalo News reports the Buffalo Bills reached a contract agreement with rookie QB Trent Edwards on Tuesday evening. Edwards, a third-round draft choice from Stanford University, becomes the second Bills draft pick to reach a deal with the team. Read more

Lions sign LB Baldwin

The Detroit Free Press reports the Lions signed LB Johnny Baldwin to a three-year contract. They drafted Baldwin in the fifth round this year. The team also signed CB Ramzee Robinson to a three-year contract and QB J.T. O'Sullivan to a one-year contract. Robinson was the 255th -- and last -- pick of this year's draft. O'Sullivan was the co-MVP of NFL Europa. The Lions released QB Phil Horvath. Read more
