Team optimistic Harrell will sign soon

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers have been one of the NFL's more successful teams when it comes to getting their draft picks into camp on time. And 2007 could very well follow a similar script. To date, Green Bay has signed five of its 11 draft picks. That list includes S Aaron Rouse (third round), OL Allen Barbre (fourth), WR David Clowney (fifth), TE Clark Harris (seventh) and RB DeShawn Wynn (seventh). Now comes the tough stuff, though. First-round DT Justin Harrell, taken with the 16th overall pick, will be the most difficult deal to do. But Eugene Parker, who represents Harrell and has a long working relationship with the Packers, is hopeful his client will be to camp on time. Read more

Jaguars sign WR Walker

The Florida Times-Union reports the Jaguars signed third-round draft pick WR Mike Walker on Tuesday to a four-year contract with a signing bonus in the $730,000 range. "It's been a long time coming," said Walker, a wide receiver who played at Central Florida. "I'm officially a Jaguar now." Read more

Cardinals, Brown working on deal

The Arizona Republic reports the Cardinals and the agent for first-round pick OT Levi Brown are continuing to negotiate in the hopes of reaching an agreement before the first practice of training camp on July 29. Brown's agent Joel Segal said Wednesday the two parties have had "preliminary, positive" talks that probably will increase in intensity next week. The Cardinals top three picks are unsigned. The agents for DT Alan Branch, a second-rounder, and LB Buster Davis, a third-round pick, could not be reached for comment Wednesday. Read more

Faneca says this is his final year with Steelers

The Post-Gazette reports OG Alan Faneca plans to report with his teammates for the start of training camp on time Monday, but it will be his final summer at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe. "I'll be there. I don't think I'll have bells on but I'll be there," Faneca said yesterday from his home in Louisiana. Faneca, a captain and the most decorated guard in team history with six Pro Bowls, will enter the final year of his contract with the Steelers. He said he will play for another team in 2008 because no talks have taken place for an extension. Faneca will become an unrestricted free agent in March. He skipped all of the team's spring drills except for the required minicamp. Read more
