Steelers lock up Polamalu through 2011 season

ESPN’s John Clayton reports the Pittsburgh Steelers, the first NFL team to sign all of its rookies, opened training camp with a bang Monday by reaching a four-year contract extension with S Troy Polamalu. Polamalu became the league's highest-paid safety by agreeing to a deal that will pay him $33 million through the 2011 season, which will allow the 26-year-old to be in line for another long-term contract in his early 30s. Polamalu was scheduled to become a free agent after the 2007 season. He will receive $15.375 million in both guarantees and roster bonuses. Read more

Davis agrees to five-year deal with Chargers

ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports the San Diego Chargers on Monday afternoon reached a contract agreement in principle with first-round draft choice WR Craig Davis, ESPN.com has learned. A speedy wide receiver from LSU, Davis is expected to challenge for meaningful playing time in 2007 as part of the team's young pass-catching corps. As the 30th player selected overall this year, Davis will sign a five-year contract. Financial details of the deal were not immediately available. Read more

Dolphins, Beck reach agreement on 4-year contract

ESPN’s John Clayton reports Dolphins second-round draft pick QB John Beck was able to clock in just in time for the start of rookie camp Monday. Miami reached a four-year agreement with the quarterback in time for him to attend his Monday meetings and not miss a minute of rookie camp. Beck, considered to be the Dolphins' quarterback of the future, signed a thee-year deal and an option that will give him $2.25 million in guaranteed money. The agreement was reached late Sunday night. Beck was in town and was in attendance for workouts Monday. Read more

Jenkins to report to Panthers camp on time

The Charlotte Observer reports Pro Bowl DT Kris Jenkins will be present when the Carolina Panthers report to training camp Friday at Wofford College. Livis Freeman, who operates Jenkins' website (www.krisjenkins77.com), said in an e-mail Monday morning that Jenkins plans to be at camp. But Jenkins declined an interview request through Freeman. Jenkins missed the team's voluntary workouts to deal with personal business, according to his agent, Tony Paige. Jenkins also forfeited a $175,000 bonus by not taking part in the team's off-season conditioning program. Paige has previously said Jenkins was working on his own with a personal trainer. Read more
