Spencer to miss opener

The Houston Chronicle reports Texans left OT Charles Spencer spent 10 months vigorously rehabilitating his knee so that it wouldn't come to this. He does not want his name on top of the physically unable to perform list. He wants his name back atop the depth chart. That will have to wait. Texans HC Gary Kubiak announced Wednesday that Spencer will be placed on the PUP list and will not step on the field until at least Week 7 (Oct. 21) of the season. Read more

Dunn sidelined 3-4 weeks after surgery

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the news keeps getting worse for the Falcons. Starting TB Warrick Dunn had back surgery July 21 for a herniated disc and could be sidelined from three to four weeks. He is expected to return for the regular season. Read more

Chiefs sign Turley to contract

ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports veteran OT Kyle Turley, who only a few years ago was rated among the NFL's top right tackles, will get another opportunity to resurrect his career. The Kansas City Chiefs, who are to report Friday to training camp, have signed Turley to a contract, the details of which were not immediately available. While the return of Turley to the league and to the Chiefs, who released him earlier this spring, probably isn't as big a headline item as the comeback of Kansas City RB Priest Holmes, it is still a significant development. Anderson agree on 5-year deal

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports for the first time in three seasons, the Falcons will have their top draft pick signed for the first practice. Arkansas DE Jamaal Anderson, selected No. 8 overall, agreed to a five-year contract Wednesday night, with guaranteed bonuses believed to be in the range of $15.5 million, based on the contract signed by last year's No. 8 pick, Donte Whitner.
