Carolina Panthers 07/30/2007 9:17 AMThe Charlotte Observer reports Carolina Panthers LB Dan Morgan said Saturday he is prepared to leave football forever if another blow to his head triggers more serious health problems. If it were me, I'd be long gone. Morgan has a wife, a young daughter and a 5-week-old son. At 28, he has plenty of money and a brain that still works. But it is Morgan's brain, after all, and he's obviously thought this through. Despite five concussions -- by his count -- he was suited up as the starting middle linebacker Saturday, the first day of training camp.Read more
San Francisco 49ers 07/30/2007 9:14 AMThe Mercury News reports OG Larry Allen missed the 49ers' opening training-camp practice Sunday, but HC Mike Nolan said the absence was excused and he expected the 11-time Pro Bowl player to report today. Allen, 35, was excused for what Nolan called personal reasons. He did not attend any of the team's off-season workouts and there have been rumors that the 13-year NFL veteran considered retiring. Nolan said he spoke recently with Allen and the subject of retirement did not come up, though he hinted some other personal considerations were a factor in Allen's absence from mini-camp, organized team activities and the off-season workout program.Read more
Atlanta Falcons 07/30/2007 9:11 AMThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports first-round draft pick DE Jamaal Anderson was inserted as the starting left defensive end Sunday, a move generated by his progress and new HC Bobby Petrino's mind-set that if a change is imminent, why wait? "We need to get him in, no question about it," Petrino said of Anderson. "He's come back from the break in very good condition. He's not been timid at all. He's been really good going against the run, and he already had the ability to rush the pass. Right now, it's just getting used to lining up with the Ones."Read more
Miami Dolphins 07/30/2007 9:02 AMThe Palm Beach Post reports Dolphins HC Cam Cameron said Sunday that his offensive line isn't close to being set, and his training camp groupings seem to bear that out. For the second straight day, the first-team offensive line was Vernon Carey (left tackle), Chris Liwienski (left guard), Samson Satele (center), Drew Mormino (right guard) and Anthony Alabi (right tackle). Rex Hadnot and L.J. Shelton, who were projected to start at right guard and tackle, respectively, did not take a snap with the first team in any of the team's three practices during the first two days of camp.Read more
