Raiders sign a QB: Culpepper, not Russell

Oakland Raiders
08/01/2007 9:43 AM
The Mercury News reports the Raiders will have a big quarterback in training camp today, but it won't be 6-foot-6, 260-pound rookie QB JaMarcus Russell. QB Daunte Culpepper, 6-4 and listed at 265 pounds, passed a physical Tuesday, then signed a one-year contract. "He'll be part of the competition to be the starting quarterback," HC Lane Kiffin said of Culpepper. "We'll give him the opportunity and see if he can take it, and if he can't, he'll be a backup. "He said he's not worried about competition. He said he's going to be the starter." Read more

An early decision would not seem, though, to bode well for QB Brady Quinn, who has not yet signed a contract. Read more
