Bears' O. Ayanbadejo suspended four games

NFL.com wire reports the NFL suspended Chicago Bears FB Obafemi Ayanbadejo for the first four regular-season games without pay for violating the league's policy on anabolic steroids and related substances. The suspension begins Sept. 1 and ends following the game against Detroit on Sept. 30. He is eligible to participate in preseason games and practices. Read more

The official website of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers reports FB Mike Alstott will miss the upcoming campaign due to a neck injury that has forced the Buccaneers to place him on injured reserve. That announcement was made on Thursday afternoon at the Bucs' headquarters in Tampa, where the team has returned in order to play its preseason opener against New England on Friday night. Read more

McFarland out for 'long-term' with knee injury

ESPN.com reports the Colts likely will have to defend their Super Bowl title without a key member of their defensive line. DT Anthony McFarland hurt the patella tendon Friday and missed Saturday's controlled scrimmage after an MRI showed the extent of the injury, the team said. The Indianapolis Star reported that it's believed that McFarland tore the tendon, likely ending his season before it begins. Read more

The Dayton Daily News reports the Indianapolis Colts may have drafted Ohio State WR Anthony Gonzalez in the first round of this year's draft, but they are quickly learning the special things they have in WR Roy Hall, who was drafted in the fifth round. The 6-foot-3, 240-pound receiver showed during a week of practice that he has a lot to offer and could be on the verge of receiving more playing time should the high level of play continue throughout Colts training camp.
