Patriots sign Warren to 5-year extension

Shockley injures left knee

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Falcons QB D.J. Shockley, the local product who has helped ease some of the fans' dismay with the negative circumstances involving Michael Vick, was carted off the field with an undisclosed left knee injury in Friday night's exhibition game against the Buffalo Bills. Shockley, who attended North Clayton High School and played at Georgia, suffered the injury while scrambling on a fourth-quarter drive. Shockley's left knee appeared to stick in the turf just before he was tackled. Read more

Packers release Ferguson

AP reports the Green Bay Packers released veteran WR Robert Ferguson on Friday, ending the wide receiver's injury-marred career with the club. “We thank Robert for everything he has given to the Packers,” Ted Thompson, Executive Vice President, General Manager and Director of Football Operations said in a statement. “In addition to his contributions on the playing field, Robert has been a positive influence in our locker room and a good teammate. As with any veteran player who has been here, we wanted to make this move early because this gives him the best chance to catch on with another organization in the NFL.” Ferguson's departure was initially divuldged on Thursday when HC Mike McCarthy said after practice that the team had decided to cut ties with the seven-year veteran, although he didn't say how that would be accomplished. Bills DT McCargo goes down with twisted ankle

AP reports DT John McCargo's injury troubles continued Tuesday when the Bills backup defensive tackle hurt his left ankle and was unable to complete practice. HC Dick Jauron said McCargo was fine, but will have more tests. The Bills, coming off a 13-10 win over New Orleans in their preseason-opener last week, prepare to host Atlanta on Friday. McCargo called the injury "nothing serious," saying he was hurt when he fell back on his ankle during an 11-on-11 drill. He limped off and was immediately attended to by trainers and a team doctor.
