Denney to have surgery, will be out indefinitely

AP reports a veteran position on a young Bills team has taken a major hit with the loss of DE Ryan Denney, who broke his left foot in Buffalo's 13-10 preseason loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Friday night. Denney, who was injured on the opening kickoff, is scheduled for surgery Monday and will be out indefinitely. Read more

Injuries mounting for Broncos

The Denver Post reports the Broncos, who dealt with nagging injuries all camp, had a tough time Saturday as DE Ebenezer Ekuban, running backs Travis Henry (knee) and Mike Bell (hip) and S Curome Cox (shoulder) left the game. Ekuban's injury is the only one that affected an entire unit. Read more

Culpepper passes physical test in game

The Mercury News reports Raiders HC Lane Kiffin knew the play was coming. He didn't know when, just that it would come at some point in a regular-season game. When it did, Kiffin wanted to make sure that QB Daunte Culpepper's surgically repaired right knee would hold up. So it was that Kiffin put Culpepper in just such a situation during a workout July 31 in which Culpepper was asked to make a sharp cut in the open field and change direction as if he were eluding a defender. Culpepper passed the test, received a one-year contract and set out to show people that he is closer to the player who stood out during a seven-year run with the Minnesota Vikings than he was the player who struggled during a failed four-game stint with the Miami Dolphins last season. MRI: No Damage In Campbell's Knee

The Washington Post reports Washington Redskins QB Jason Campbell suffered nothing more serious than a bruise during Saturday night's preseason game, tests reaffirmed yesterday. Campbell underwent a late-morning MRI exam that showed no serious damage, team officials said. Campbell and Redskins HC Joe Gibbs said it will be determined later in the week whether Campbell will play Saturday's preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens. Read more
