Samuel shows up at Patriots camp

AP reports New England Patriots CB Asante Samuel ended his holdout Monday, returning to the team after missing the first three preseason games. Samuel was taking a physical Monday, HC Bill Belichick said. It was not immediately clear whether he would practice with the team later in the day, and Belichick declined to comment on whether Samuel would play in the Patriots' preseason finale Thursday against the visiting New York Giants. Jags sign Claiborne to one-year deal

ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports continuing to add veteran depth, even two weeks before the start of the season, the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday signed unrestricted free agent LB Chris Claiborne, a former first-round draft choice, to a one-year contract. The deal came after Claiborne, who was released by the New York Giants last October and had not been in an NFL training camp this summer, had a strong workout for team officials and coaches. Financial details of the deal were not immediately available, but it likely included a minimum base salary of $720,000. Read more

ESPN.com reports holdout RB Larry Johnson agreed to a five-year contract extension and joined the Kansas City Chiefs for practice Tuesday, surprising teammates who broke into scattered cheers when he jogged unannounced onto the field. Read more

Seahawks reach extension with Wallace

ESPN’s John Clayton reports the Seahawks settled on their backup quarterback of the present and the future by reaching a three-year extension for $5.4 million with QB Seneca Wallace. Wallace was scheduled to be a free agent after the season. His salary was scheduled to be $800,000. Stepping in for Matt Hasselbeck for four starts last season, Wallace played well enough in games and in the preseason to convince the Seahawks to lock him up through 2010. He will make $3.2 million in the first two years of the extension. Read more
