Bucs' Adams To Start Opener

The Tampa Tribune reports there is no turning back for Tampa Bay rookie DE Gaines Adams - or the Bucs. Adams will start his first professional football game Sunday when Tampa Bay travels to play Seattle at 4:15 p.m. in the season opener. 'He's got to be ready. He's got to go,' Bucs defensive line/assistant head coach Larry Coyer said. 'He's worked hard. Time to go play now.' Adams has received this opportunity largely because Tampa Bay learned that starting DE Patrick Chukwurah will be out three to six weeks because of an MCL tear in his right knee. Chukwurah sustained his injury during a preseason game against Miami two weeks ago. Read more

TE Campbell undergoes second MRI

The Times-Picayune reports amid concern over the health of TE Mark Campbell, the Saints added a fifth tight end to their active roster Monday, re-signing TE Ronnie Ghent and cutting DT McKinley Boykin to free up the roster spot. Campbell has been bothered for the past week by a stiff back. He underwent a second MRI exam Monday and was not at practice. Ghent had been released by the Saints on Friday. Read more

Jones taking it easy

The Seattle Times reports OT Walter Jones (shoulder) didn't practice Monday, but he will Wednesday and is expected to play Sunday against Tampa Bay. Rookie CB Josh Wilson (hip) also is expected to play. WR Ben Obomanu's status is more uncertain. He has a strained hamstring. Read more

Cardinals: Moses too good to pass up

The Arizona Republic reports when the Oakland Raiders cut DE Quentin Moses last week, the reaction was typical to that of many of their personnel moves: What were they thinking, cutting a third-round pick with pass-rushing skills? In the NFL, it's hard to give up so early on a 6-foot-5, 260-pounder who has the size and athletic ability to become a decent pass rusher. Was owner Al Davis overruling the coaching staff? Did the Raiders' front office make a paperwork error? The Cardinals don't much care. Surprised that Moses was available, they claimed him on waivers Sunday, and he practiced with them for the first time Monday. Read more
