Ogden: Game-time decision

The Baltimore Sun reports OT Jonathan Ogden said after today’s practice that he will “probably” be a game-time decision for Monday’s season opener in Cincinnati. The ten-time Pro Bowl left tackle has practiced this week after missing all the preseason games because of a toe injury. He did not have his foot taped for the second straight day, which seems to be an encouraging sign. Read more

Roethlisberger will make all the calls

The Post-Gazette reports QB Ben Roethlisberger will do more than change plays and switch protections at the line of scrimmage this season. He will have veto power to discard plays offensive coordinator Bruce Arians has formulated for the game plan. It will be the first time in his four seasons Roethlisberger will have such control of the offense. "A lot of things look good to coaches," Arians said. "It's not any good if the quarterback doesn't like it." Read more

Cards' Branch out for Monday

The Arizona Republic reports the Cardinals depth, already a concern, became a little more shallow Friday, when HC Ken Whisenhunt said backup NT Alan Branch will miss Monday's game against the 49ers because of a fracture in his left hand. Branch, the team's second-round pick, suffered the injury in Thursday's practice, but he had been optimistic that he could play with the hand wrapped. That hope ended when it was determined he could make the fracture worse by playing. Branch will be evaluated Tuesday. Read more

Raiders and top pick work toward a deal

The San Francisco Chronicle reports Raiders officials met face-to-face in Oakland with representatives for QB JaMarcus Russell on Friday, with one source saying they were "close" to getting the No. 1 overall draft pick signed. Russell's agent flew in from Scottsdale to meet with team officials in hopes of ending the stalemate before Sunday's season opener. Both sides worked into late Friday night to settle their differences over a contract that's believed to be worth $61 million over six years. Read more
