Knee injuries sideline Bears' Brown, Dvoracek

ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports the defending NFC champion Chicago Bears have lost two defensive starters, FS Mike Brown and NT Dusty Dvoracek, to season-ending knee injuries sustained in the team's opening-day defeat at San Diego on Sunday afternoon. Follow-up MRI examinations on both players confirmed on Monday that both have suffered ligament damage to their left knees. Bears officials had feared as much on Sunday evening. Read more

Sources say Manning suffered slight shoulder separation

ESPN.com reports New York Giants QB Eli Manning has a slightly separated shoulder which is expected to keep him out at least a month, sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Monday.Doctors told the team that Manning does not need surgery, but the quarterback will get a second opinion from orthopedic specialist Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala. After the game Sunday, Manning said the shoulder was just bruised and sore. Read more

Everett has life-threatening spinal-cord injury

AP reports the Buffalo Bills' TE Kevin Everett sustained a "catastrophic" and life-threatening spinal-cord injury and his chances of regaining a full range of body motion are very small, an orthopedic surgeon said Monday. "A best-case scenario is full recovery, but not likely," Dr. Andrew Cappuccino said, one day after performing a four-hour operation on the player. "I believe there will be some permanent neurological paralysis. ... A full neurological recovery was bleak, dismal." Read more
