Injuries might prove costly next week

The Star-Ledger reports the Giants lost LB Kawika Mitchell, S Craig Dahl and C Shaun O'Hara with sprained knees -- all by halftime. CB Sam Madison left in the fourth quarter with what the Giants announced to be an abdominal injury, but Madison told reporters he wanted to wait and see what the doctors say today. O'Hara wasn't sure if he would be available for next weekend's playoff game with Tampa Bay. The Giants center was injured late in the second quarter when tackle David Diehl was pushed onto O'Hara, buckling the center's leg. Read more

Lions to fire Martz; WR coach to take over offense

The Detroit Free Press reports the Lions are set to fire offensive coordinator Mike Martz after today's season-ending game at Green Bay and replace him with receivers coach Kippy Brown, the Los Angeles Times reported, citing anonymous sources. Peterson gets first postseason award

The Pioneer Press reports RB Adrian Peterson was named the Vikings' most valuable offensive player on Saturday in a vote of his teammates and coaches. Middle LB E.J. Henderson was voted defensive MVP, and linebacker Heath Farwell took home special-teams honors. Peterson has rushed for a team-leading 1,305 yards heading into today's regular-season finale at Denver. Henderson leads the defense in tackles with 138, and Farwell has registered a team-high 30 special-teams tackles. Read more

End of season doesn't bring relief

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the final pile of dirt will be shoveled on the Falcons' season a few hours before dinner time Sunday, but there are few employed or involved with the franchise who will be able to rest in peace. "We probably won't shake this until like April or May, when everything is solidified, when we've got a coach and know what players that will be here," said Atlanta DE John Abraham, one of a few players whose return is probable.
