Denver Broncos 01/01/2008 8:22 AMThe Denver Post reports WR Javon Walker has said a lot during his short stay with the Broncos, but his parting words after an injury-riddled 2007 season might have been his final words with the team. With a bombshell to start the offseason after a disappointing 7-9 season, Walker went on a rambling diatribe in which he said he doesn't believe he is the right fit for the team's offense and that the team is not for him. Asked directly if he was seeking a trade or a release from the team, Walker sidestepped the question, but reiterated he didn't think he was right for the team.Read more
Denver Broncos 01/01/2008 8:21 AMThe Denver Post reports the reconstruction of the Broncos took another dramatic step Monday â on the first day of the offseason â when longtime OT Matt Lepsis told coach Mike Shanahan he was retiring. "It is time for me to move on," Lepsis said. "I am completely sure this is the right thing to do." When Lepsis, who turns 34 in 12 days, woke up Monday, a day after Denver beat visiting Minnesota 22-19 in overtime, he knew he was done as an NFL player. "I wanted to let the team know as soon as possible," Lepsis said. "The organization was so good to me, and I felt like I needed to tell them right away."Read more
Cleveland Browns 01/01/2008 8:18 AMThe Dayton Daily News reports Browns TE Kellen Winslow is not one to mince words. He remained true to form Monday on the subject of which quarterback will lead the team. While lobbying for neither, Winslow thinks QB Brady Quinn eventually will get the nod over QB Derek Anderson, who struggled down the stretch but generally starred in his first season as a starter. "You know how it works, man," Winslow said as the Browns cleaned out their lockers a day after falling short of the playoffs despite finishing 10-6. "We drafted (Quinn). He's probably going to play, so we'll see what happens. Derek's a great guy, but that's just the way this business works. You draft a guy, especially in the first round, he's playing." The Browns gave their 2008 first-round draft choice to Dallas last April for the right to move back into the first round and select Quinn. The rookie from Notre Dame took his first NFL snaps in Sunday's 20-7 win over the San Francisco 49ers, charging onto the field to a loud ovation.Read more
Cincinnati Bengals 01/01/2008 8:16 AMThe Dayton Daily News reports Bengals HC Marvin Lewis wouldn't mention names, but the unrestricted free agents likely to emerge as high priorities are linebackers Landon Johnson and Dhani Jones, and OT Stacy Andrews. DE Justin Smith also would be welcome back, but not for the $8.6 million he was paid with the franchise tag in 2007. "We'll make some changes in our players," Lewis said. "We do have some free agents. We have some guys in spots we'd like to fill and be better at. We have some young players that will come on and have their opportunity. And we have the draft. "It's in our best interest that we can get some of the people (signed) before the start of free agency. But it has to be important to the player as well. That's going to be a matter of how both sides can agree."Read more
