Bengals interview Atlanta's Zimmer

ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday began the process of identifying potential candidates to fill their defensive coordinator vacancy by interviewing Mike Zimmer, who currently holds the same position with the Atlanta Falcons, but who has been granted permission to explore other options. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis earlier this week fired Chuck Bresnahan, his defensive coordinator for the past three seasons, along with linebackers coach Ricky Hunley. Lewis will be working with his third different coordinator in six years, having previously fired Leslie Frazier following the 2004 campaign. Read more

New candidates emerge for Falcons openings

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the Falcons' search for a general manager and head coach continued Thursday, and several new names have surfaced as candidates to be interviewed. The Philadelphia Inquirer, citing an unidentified team individual, is reporting that Tom Heckert, the Philadelphia Eagles' general manager, will interview with the Falcons. According to the report, Heckert, 40, will fly to Atlanta on Sunday and interview with team owner Arthur Blank on Monday. Read more

The Palm Beach Post reports once he had decided the fate of coach Cam Cameron, Bill Parcells could turn his attention to the people he knows best. The Parcells family of coaches. There are plenty of them. But chances are Parcells, the new Dolphins executive vice president of operations, will focus on just a few during his search to replace Cameron, who was fired Thursday. Dallas assistant head coach Tony Sparano and Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel top the list of candidates for Parcells and new GM Jeff Ireland. An NFL source familiar with the league's coaching carousel said Thursday that Sparano and Crennel make up the Dolphins' "A" list. Read more

Ravens set to kick off coaching search

The Baltimore Sun reports the Ravens are set to start interviewing head coaching candidates as soon as today, but they can already cross one name off their list. New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels said yesterday he is not interested in pursuing head coaching jobs this year. The Ravens had requested permission Wednesday to speak to McDaniels, 31, who directed the Patriots' record-breaking offense this season. McDaniels, though, wasn't believed to be at the top of the Ravens' list to replace Brian Billick. Read more
